Who We Are
Rabbi David Zargari founded Torat Hayim Hebrew Academy in 1987 to serve the needs of new Iranian Jewish immigrants. While the school flourished and grew to a school of over 200 children, over the years the needs of the community changed. On the advice of Rabbi Zargari’s mentor, Rabbi Yaakov Weinberg זצ"ל, Rosh Yeshiva of Ner Israel, the mission of the school was redirected to better educate the next generation, students of religiously observant Sephardic families in Los Angeles. To this end, Tashbar Torat Hayim was established in 2005. All Tashbar families are Shomrei Mitzvot and committed to and lead a Torah life.
Tashbar Torat Hayim aims to prepare its students to graduate with self-confidence, pride in their Sephardic heritage and with an interest and curiosity that will continue to inspire them in their secondary education and beyond. Tashbar paves the way for each student to become a Ben/Bat Torah by teaching Torah with love and passion. Dedicated Rabbanim and Morot provide a nurturing environment which inspires spiritual growth and direction for students to be life-long learners of Torah. In addition to teaching the skills of learning, Tashbar takes pride in preserving and safeguarding the laws and Sephardic customs as they were passed down.
